Fuengirola: an open-air urban art route

In Fuengirola, we are creativity, culture and disruptive art. You only have to look up to be struck by murals that spark the imagination and pay tribute to our identity.

More than 20 original creations make up the Paseo de los Murales in the El Boquetillo neighbourhood. An initiative born from the Sustainable and Integrated Urban Development Strategy to beautify and bring life to the streets of the area. These are works of art inspired by the sea and signed by national artists such as Lula Goce, Nesui, Lalone, Kato or Slim Safont and Wedo Goás, among others.

And these are not the first nor the only traces that turn Fuengirola into an open museum. In the 1980s, five huge murals were installed on different buildings around the town. Highlights include the mural La noche y el día by Málaga-born painter Enrique Brinkman or the work Pantallas by Alfonso Fraile, National Painting Award winner in 1983.

Alongside the renowned El Paseo de los Murales, Fuengirola has gradually transformed into a true open-air museum. Throughout the town, visitors will discover a remarkable collection of sculptures and monuments displayed in squares, streets, parks and green spaces. Each piece tells a story, reflecting the heritage, traditions and character that have shaped Fuengirola over the years.

Many of these artistic landmarks can also be found along the seafront promenade, where art and the Mediterranean landscape come together. From the iconic Anchovy Bench (Banco de los Boquerones) to Mediterránea and the much-loved Monumento de la Peseta, these works offer a unique way to explore the town’s identity while enjoying a stroll by the sea.
